Review of “Bama Profiles in Courage: Laykin”: (Capers) Barr flexes through an emotional range that most writers would never dare attempt … Humor and Bama sorrow are fused together like twined tree trunks that keep each other standing…..It’s part satire, part character study, with a wry lens on fame, fandom, and the modern South. Well done, Capers, well done.”– Ian Allen, The Times Literary Supplement.

If you’re a paranoid injury-prone third basemen, John Smoltz would like to have a word with you. So suck it up, Chipper Jones [ESPN]. Yep, according to legend if you stare at a Chipper Jones body part, that part will break and resist rehab efforts.

Jones apparently sustained the injury, which is in the groin area, during Tuesday’s game against Boston. He left Wednesday’s game with the injury and was held out Friday following an off day Thursday .

After Friday night’s 5-0 loss to the Tigers, Smoltz said, “You can’t worry about who’s in the lineup and who isn’t. You can’t worry about that stuff anymore.”

Added Smoltz: “I certainly appreciate the effort of the guys who are on the field busting it.”

Smoltz, who ironically has a sore shoulder, didn’t identify Jones as a player not in the lineup

Smoltz is money, a sure-fire HOFer, and a guy who has come back from what is typically known as a career ending (or, at the very least, hobbling) surgery. He can say whatever he wants about any vagina player he wants. And face it, Chipper Jones is a vagina. Really, if he was calling out Chipper… after the last few seasons, Smoltz has a right to.

I guess that Jones and Smoltz are buds now.  They shook hands after meeting with Bobby Cox.  I hope that Smoltz remembered that Chipper has a sore thumb too..[ESPN].  All the Braves need is for Chipper to hit the DL again for reinjuring that thumb.
