Marshall and their fans shouldn’t even be allowed to play the song, or practice it, or listen to it . Did John Denver go to Huntington High School and play “Country Roads” at the dedication of that field (can’t really call it a stadium…)?? NO!!!! “Country Roads” belongs to WVU and the Pride does it better than ANYONE ELSE EVER WILL (except for John Denver of course).
I heard Marshall’s band play their own “special” arrangement of John Denver’s golden tune. It sucked. It was an upbeat, jazz/rock version of the tune. It was nothing short of TERRIBLE. They didn’t play it at the football game last year, and that was a good decision. They would’ve gotten murdered by our fans. Hopefully, since we’re taking away any type of home field advantage they have, they’ll make the same smart choice.
I don’t know about the rest of you, but I am sick and tired of Marshall trying to be West Virginia University. No matter what WVU does, Marshall tries to copy..then tries to claim that they actually had the idea first which is always a bunch of shit..just like the Marshall Maniacs thing..they claim that they had this group before WVU. While it might be true that a group name this existed before WVU’s student section was named this….there wasn’t a “Marshall Maniacs” student section until this year. When Marshall can’t justify something, they just rewrite history the way they want it to read.
I don’t want to hear their crappy band butcher such a classic song. They wouldn’t even be playing it if WVU didn’t play it. Besides it’s not like trying to copy WVU is going to make people forget that you suck a big ass.
High 5’s all around my SEC Homers!!!
