I have never seen a fanbase set a guy up to fail like ours has Jon Crompton. I am sure it has happened, i have just never seen it. Booing at a scrimmage? Saying his career is already a failure? Why do we as fans care more about being right than the success of our QB. This is really not a shot at anybody in particular, and is absolutely nothing personal. Its just we all know that Crompton’s biggest issue is mental. I think we need to take a note from LK. It seems like everybody refers to Lane as the gospel on all other issues, so why not listen to him here? Lane has been pretty transparent in his attempts to boost JC’s confidence, dont you think he is doing for a reason? The way fans are talking, and acting right now, he is being set up for complete failure.
I am not saying Crompton is going to be Peyton if we fill his head up with smoke. But a fanbase getting behind him, and believing in him, could make a big difference. Think John Parker Wilson. Not great, but good enough to win. I think it is time that fans realize there is a very good chance Crompton is going to be starting vs. WKU, and get behind him. The more we openly doubt him, the more he will doubt himself….and then you will have a real disaster on your hands. Sure he was crappy last year, but its not like his back-ups set the world on fire, and it is not like the rest of the offense was playing at a high level. There was a trend, the new offense had everybody playing slow. O-Line-Sucked. WR-Sucked. RB’s-Did nothing. You dont see people booing Chris Scott at scrimmages. I would argue Scott was just as bad. We need Crompton to be better in order to win. I normally dont talk like this, but i think it is time that people just be quiet until the season starts. Anytime we are mentioned with a QB recruit, people say things like “why would he not want to come to Tennessee…Great fan support”. We are passionate fans, no doubt about it. But right now the fan support sucks…and knowing what i know, i am not sure i would want to be the QB at Tennessee. People are setting our entire team up for failure. Stop letting your personal agenda get in the way///
