Can we cope? Review the stress free strategies

1. Tennessee vs. Kentucky

  • Time: 7:00 PM ET, ESPN
  • Odds: Tennessee -3
  • Sirius/XM: 191 (Tennessee), 374 (Kentucky)
  • Game Analysis: Tennessee’s defense excels at stopping third downs (holding opponents to 30.2% conversions). Don’t believe me? Ask Bama’s Jalen MidRole about that bad-ass 3rd down efficiency. Kentucky’s run game will test it, but Neyland Stadium is where Vols defenders eat.
  • Rooting Interest: Tennessee win – Because that’s what keeps our playoff dollars alive! Fine dining in the Dark Viper Mode.

2. Ohio State vs. Penn State

  • Time: 12:00 PM ET, FOX
  • Odds: Ohio State -4.5
  • Sirius/XM: 82 (Ohio State), 197 (Penn State)
  • Game Analysis: Ohio State’s stingy red-zone defense vs. Penn State’s struggles inside the 20 is the story. Let the Buckeyes do the work of reducing Big Ten competition for us.
  • Rooting Interest: Ohio State win – A Buckeyes victory keeps the Vols’ path clear.
Ah, who am I kidding? No it won’t.

To hell with both of these sissy teams and their thin-skinned fans.

A Penn State win– removes a weak and immensely unpopular Ohio State from the mix. Ohio State is morally bankrupt. Never forget they birthed us Kirk Herbstreit and the ridiculous “Ben the dog “ Lifetime Movie storyline. Penn State could be a real win for America.

3. Florida vs. Georgia

  • Time: 2:30 PM ET, ABC
  • Odds: Georgia -22.5
  • Sirius/XM: 190 (Georgia), 192 (Florida)
  • Game Analysis: Georgia’s defense is very “Tennessee “-like, currently ranked 4th nationally. This unit has been particularly effective at limiting opponents to only 4.7 yards per play and a third-down conversion rate of just 26.7%. Florida has a habit of finding spooky swamp magic when least expected. We’re rooting for an upset to shake up the SEC East.
  • Rooting Interest: Florida win – Some circa 2007 Gator chaos could clear a more direct path for the Vols.

4. Texas A&M vs. South Carolina

  • Time: 6:30 PM ET, ABC
  • Odds: Texas A&M -8.5
  • Sirius/XM: 84 (Texas A&M), 190 (South Carolina)
  • Game Analysis: The Aggies’ top 15 defense has racked up a total of 39 sacks. This stat places them as one of the leaders nationally in this category. This is going to be a hellish nightmare for a South Carolina offense gives up a lot of sacks. The Cocks have allowed a WHOPPING 25 sacks through Week 9 of the 2024 season, placing them among the worst in the FBS for sacks allowed.
  • Rooting Interest: Texas A&M win. I get it, A&M seems really good, and could make the SECCG. A Texas A&M win aligns with Vols fans’ interests for two reasons. It keeps SEC bowl and playoff strength high. It also helps prevent any chaos from South Carolina. This chaos could complicate rankings or bowl selection (like 2022 when Stalions sent them our signals).

Plus, there’s always that personal satisfaction when Shane Beamer’s antics and quirks don’t translate to a W. Rooting for A&M here is supporting stability and order in the SEC. It’s also rooting a little extra for the Vols’ playoff chances.

5. Iowa State vs. Texas Tech

  • Time: 2:30 PM ET, ESPN
  • Odds: Iowa State -2.5
  • Sirius/XM: 381 (Iowa State), 199 (Texas Tech)
  • Game Analysis: Texas Tech’s ground attack meets the undefeated Iowa State’s top-tier defense. The Cyclones D ranks among the top 25 nationally in points allowed per game. They give up just around 14 points on average. The ISU SOS is ranked 57th, you judge that level of competition. A Red Raider win knocks down a Big 12 playoff pretender, clearing the Vols’ path to the playoffs.
  • Rooting Interest: Texas Tech win.

Every one of these match-ups affects Tennessee’s playoff potential, so don’t miss out! With an eye on the scoreboard and fingers crossed for upsets, this week could shape the Vols’ postseason outlook.
