In light of the recent recommendation by a special NCdubA committee, the NCAA has said they will ban communication by text from coaches to athletes during recruitment  The coaches’ association is trying to convince the NCAA that completely restricting texting is not the appropriate solution. 

“It’s the most effective way to immediately communicate with prospects and their families without being intrusive,” Texas coach Mack Brown said last week. “With the limitations on phone calls and in-person visits, a personal text is an efficient and convenient way to answer questions, have a quick discussion or just stay in touch.”

Most football coaches seem to agree with Brown and the association.

 When asked about his opinion, Auburn coach Tommy Tuberville didn’t seem concerned one way or the other, “I’m not sure what you mean by text message.  But if that means I cain’t no longer scratch out a note to a recruit and send it on by carrier pigeon; then heck yea, I’m against banning text messages.”
