It appears that ESPN lost one loud-mouth, functionally retarded wide receiver-turned-“analyst” but fear not, the Worldwide Leader just gained another today.
Keyshawn Johnson, who I attest is the most overrated receiver in NFL history and without question a bust as a number 1 overall pick, has announced that he will turn down a contract from the Tennessee Titans to play and do what he’s always done best during his disappointing 11-year NFL career – RUN HIS MOUTH.
Why do we care about this guy? This is a player who was the number 1 overall pick in the 1996 NFL draft and then spent the rest of his career traveling around the league, burning bridges and calling attention to himself everywhere he went. His numbers are certainly average at best. He averaged fewer than 6 touchdown catches per season during his career and was never the impact player on any team that people billed him as coming into the league.
I’m sure somewhere Steve Young, Tom Jackson, Chris Mortensen and others on the Bristol campus are weeping. They manage to rid themselves of the retardation that was Michael Irvin but what goes around, comes around.
What would be truly great is if at his press conference today at USC, he said how much he was looking forward to working with Chris Berman and then the Worldwide Leader announced they didn’t want him after all.
