We say that the “old-fashioned Rivalries” still beats the hell out of the new rivalries being pushed on us by the left wing drive-by liberal sports media puppets like Steve Megargee of Rivals.com. We here at the LWS are having none of this new-fangled football bullshit that ESPN and kids are into these days like with all of the hippity-hop and the Britney Spearses.
Why do people always want to compare Big East Conference to Big Boy (SEC) football?
They are two completely different games. The Big East has its moment of rough play but it is a finesse sport. The object of the Big East game is not to hit a guy real hard… it is to make sound short passes/pitches that lead to a score (sounds more like it compares to basketball). No one will ever market the Big East as a physical conference. Big East football futbol was never meant to be a violent sport, period. Sure there are the accidental physical plays in Big East, just like in basketball, but both are considered non-contact in their respective sports.
You have to also remember, other than on ESPN2, Big East football futbol is hardly
ever marketed in the regions of the US that really understand it…say like the South. I mean, yeah Big East gets it’s Thursday night games on ESPN2, but almost all the other marketing campaigns are non-existent. The real ESPN has got to know that they ate a real shit sandwich with the Big East contract they signed. ESPN had to be thinking: Miami, VT and BC, why did you go to the ACC, why???? Now ESPN is stuck with the Sunbelt Conference on Roids.
I think if one of the more mainstream channels picked up the Big East, say like ESPN (the real one) or CBC or something, Big East football futbol might do better TV wise. I’m a huge SEC fan, but watching the Big East can be really grating on me at times. I’m sure I’m not the only one, considering in most Big East threads on football forums, people talk about Arena Football or flag football leagues more than they talk about the Big East.
Face facts, the SEC is respected EVERYWHERE. Why else do other conference wish to be like the King of college Football Conferences?
Regardless, Steve Megargee of Rivals.com has been on a tear recently when it comes to pushing the “establishment’s or the Man’s” new college football agenda. One of his latest columns looks at the top new rivalries in college football – the series that have become feature games without as much fanfare as your traditional Army-Navy matchups.
Here is his top five rivalries:
1. Louisville vs. West Virginia
2. Auburn vs. LSU
3. Texas A&M vs. Texas Tech
4. Florida vs. South Carolina
5. Kansas State vs. Nebraska
1. As I said earlier in this piece, Louisville vs. West Virginia reminds me of one of this English Soccer League rivalries. Full of dumbasses and hooligans that wear frilly sleeves and do the tango. The Big East needs to come to grips that SEC football padding is weaponry as much as anything. The speed, intensity, execution and follow-through of hits in the SEC are far superior to those of any other conference. Hence the SEC is faster and more physical than than any other conference.

2. Auburn vs. LSU will be one of the biggest games of the year, as it has been in recent history. In order for a game to get attention, it usually requires two good teams, not one good team and a coach. So before any Bammers come on here screaming that UAT and LSU is the best match up , stop it right now. This more typical Alabama fan delusion, similar to the “we got 12” and “we made the SEC” propoganda. I laugh at how they believe that Bama is the nation’s darling. I laugh at how they think Bama is still relevant in the national scene. LSU vs. Bama won’t get more attention than LSU vs. Auburn, you’ve got to understand, no one cares about Alabama anymore. Oops, I take all of that back.
Yeah, UAT/LSU will be a pretty big game. Anyone remember Pinson?
I think Bama/LSU is building into a great game to watch and will quickly become a good rivalry as well. I’m glad AU/LSU has become an “elite” rivalry, but dollars to donuts, UAT/LSU will get more attention this year than AU/LSU. Saban’s old team vs. his new one. Les Miles talkin’ all that shit in the offseason. You gotta think of the storylines. The media eats these things up. Even in all the fluffer preseason publications, a lot of the talk is already all about Bama/LSU. Auburn/LSU is always a big game in the West like Bama/Arkansas. On the national stage this season it will probably mean very little because LSU will be the contender but Auburn…I think the Barn will be in the mix…..
3. USC vs. UF makes for a gentleman’s rivalry because UF fans still love Spurrier and the Cocks can’t “hate” UF because that’s where Spurrier came from Florida. Now that I think about that previous statement, that is flawed logic. Spurrier is from Tennessee and I hate his ass without a second thought. So, I think Florida and South Carolina could become a legitimate SEC rivalry, although it doesn’t have much history yet. The last two have been gems, though. Spurrier stunning the Gators in ’05 to keep them from the SEC Championship Game and Jarvis Moss’s Marijuana enhanced leaping ability (Ganja added 18″!!! thanks Gatorade scientists.) saving the Gator’s chance at the National Championship. As if the Gators were not already confused about Spurrier coaching at South Carolina, he casts a huge shadow over Herban Meyer as these two soldiers of Satan battle for the hearts and minds of the Florida fans.
4. Does anyone really consider Texas A&M/Texas Tech game to be “elite”? Aren’t they really fighting for second place in their own state? Kinda of like the winner of the Egg Bowl is fighting for second place in Mississippi? Sorry fellas, Southern Miss looks pretty good.
5. Kansas State and Nebraska? No one outside of the Little House on the Prairie ever watches that dreadful game. When I think of a rivalry, I think of that game being on National Television. I would rather be given the gifts alcoholism, gambling and painkiller addictions, acne, herpes , anorexia, and halitosis than watch this horrid game.
