Louisiana State coach Les Miles appears to be a Michigan coaching candidate again [detroit free press].
However, the Coonasses have a press conference scheduled for today [LSU Rivals].
Miles had a phone conversation Friday morning with Michigan athletic director Bill Martin and school president Mary Sue Coleman, according to several people with knowledge of the call.
Michigan received permission Nov. 28 from LSU athletic director Skip Bertman to speak with Miles, as long as it was after the Dec. 1 SEC championship game. So asking LSU again for permission was not an issue; U-M is believed to have initiated Friday’s call.
The $1.25-million buyout to leave for Michigan reportedly is still in place.
Seriously? Even after the contract extension, Les was able to STILL keep this in place? Why LSU didn’t raise the $1.25-million buyout to leave for Michigan in any contract extension is a bigger mystery.
There was a lot of publicity of Miles winning with Saban’s recruits, and that Miles can’t recruit (see below). There have been a lot of comments that a Miles coached team isn’t disciplined and each week that the lack of coaching caught up with them.

There is no way Saban players make up the majority of players on the field this year. LSU’s recruiting has no doubt taken a bit of a hit with the rumors of Miles’ departure this year.
Contrary to what has been written, Miles did not say “no”, he was never officially offered the job. Have you ever heard him say “I am not going to Michigan”?
Now, if UM does manage to get Miles away from LSU, it would well and truly leave the Bayou Bengals in a world of hurt. Imagine trying to hire a good coach after the bowl games, and trying to sign a decent recruiting class on ridiculously short notice.
