- Oregon: A balanced offense and defense. However, the Ducks were penalty prone. They incurred 12 penalties, resulting in a loss of 95 yards. Mark this down: The Ducks will lose in a rematch to Ohio State later in the year. Until that loss, they are pretty good.
- Texas: Explosive Offense; Ewers threw 5 TDs vs a hapless Gator team. Florida coach “Amish Billy” received a vote of confidence for next season.
- Tennessee: The Vols feature a balanced offense anchored by an elite run game. After Nico went down late in the first half, the run game took over, exploding in his absence. The explosive nature of the run game was favorably compared to adult film stat Peter North. Nico was held out of the second half as a “business decision” and a “precautionary measure”.
- Ole Miss: The Rebels notched a big win over Georgia, with a swarming defense that forced multiple turnovers. However, their offense struggled to sustain drives at times, possibly due to Georgia’s stout defensive front.
- BYU: The Mormons remained undefeated with a narrow win over Utah, demonstrating one more prophetic performance in close games. The Cougar defense, however, showed susceptibility to big plays, which could be concerning moving forward. Note: In a “business decision”, the B12 refs (see video below) gave BYU a nudge.
- Ohio State: These lovable underachievers are a real head case of a team. The Buckeyes dominated Purdue with a high-powered offense and a defense that stifled the Boilermakers. Still, they exhibited moments of complacency in the second half, allowing unnecessary points.
- Bama: Quarterback/RB Jalen Milroe delivered a standout performance. He led the Crimson Tide to a decisive win over LSU despite limited reliance on passing the football. However, the Tide’s secondary contues to allow substantial passing yards. This vulnerability could be exploited by future opponents. ESPN appears to favor Alabama, even hinting that the Tide could leapfrog Tennessee in rankings.
- Penn State: Not sure why I have them ranked. I suppose I can read the writing on the wall. Penn State will go to the playoffs when they finish winning their cupcake schedule. The Nittany Lions showcased a balanced attack and a formidable defense in their victory over Washington. Yet, their offensive line struggled at times, leading to quarterback pressures and sacks.
- Army: The undefeated Black Knights continued their unbeaten streak. They secured a disciplined win over North Texas. The team excelled in time of possession. Their passing game, however, remains limited, hindering versatility.
- Notre Dame: The Fighting Irish delivered a commanding performance against Florida State. Quarterback Riley Leonard accounted for multiple touchdowns. The defense forced several turnovers. However, they showed vulnerability in pass protection, allowing multiple sacks.
