Frankly I was losing my ever loving shit during the first quarter. Especially while the Vandy QB Diego Pavia was going full Vato Pancho Villa for a few minutes.
Our Volunteers capped their regular season with a strong 36-23 comeback win over Vanderbilt on November 30, 2024. Despite an early 14-0 deficit, Tennessee’s offense erupted, led by quarterback Nico Iamaleava, who threw for 257 yards and four touchdowns. Wide receiver Dont’e Thornton recorded 118 yards and two scores, while running back Dylan Sampson powered the ground game with 178 rushing yards. Defensively, the Vols held Vanderbilt to just 232 total yards, dominating time of possession and controlling the game’s pace.
With the win, Tennessee improved to 10-2 (6-2 SEC) and climbed to No. 6 in both the AP and Coaches Polls. Their strong finish has positioned them as a potential College Football Playoff contender, pending the outcomes of key conference championship games. The CFP committee’s updated rankings, set for release on December 3, will ultimately determine their fate, but the Volunteers’ dominant close to the season makes a compelling case for their inclusion in the playoff conversation.
