Shane Beamer, a 100% certified slapdick, says Tennessee fans are disrespecting the players and coaches who hung 63 on us in 2022.

For once, the bastard has a point.

And Beamer knows a little something about receiving another team’s play information.

Back in 2014, while coaching at Virginia Tech, Beamer accepted confidential Wake Forest play information from Tommy Elrod, a former Wake Forest assistant working as a broadcaster.

He didn’t report it.

When the WakeyLeaks scandal surfaced in 2016, Georgia withheld $25,000 from Beamer’s compensation and issued a formal reprimand. Beamer admitted accepting the information but insisted he never shared or used it.

And here’s the beautiful part.

Virginia Tech lost that game to Wake Forest, 6–3.

So Beamer is uniquely qualified to explain that having somebody else’s plays doesn’t guarantee you can do a damned thing with them.

He’s received the information. He’s been disciplined for accepting it. And he’s been on the sideline for a three-point offensive masterpiece.

Editorial satire: Shane Beamer with a Wake Forest play-information folder beside a 6–3 score, contrasted with his South Carolina team's 63–38 win over Tennessee.
WakeyLeaks. Some assembly required. (Satirical illustration.)

Which brings us back to Columbia.

Let’s give South Carolina every benefit of the doubt. Suppose they had Tennessee’s signals. Every damned one of them.

Somebody still had to know what to do with them.

Somebody had to recognize the formation, communicate the call, get eleven men lined up, block somebody, make a tackle, and execute without stepping on his own dick.

Spencer Rattler still had to complete 30 of 37 passes for 438 yards and six touchdowns.

South Carolina still had to produce 606 yards of offense.

Signals don’t throw touchdowns. Signals don’t block defensive linemen. And signals damn sure don’t score 63 points by themselves.

So I’ll give Beamer and his staff their due.

Whatever information South Carolina did or didn’t have, those players still had to execute.

And they did.

Beamer ought to appreciate that distinction better than anybody. He’s already had a $25,000 lesson in the difference between accepting confidential play information and actually winning a football game.

Congratulations, Shane.

You were competent enough to take full advantage of Tennessee’s 2022 defense.

That’s a compliment, by the way.
