Homer Can you pass the Kool-Aid?

David Cutcliffe is interested in N.C. State job but does that mean that N.C. State is interested in him?
Tennessee Message Boards are in partial meltdown mode over this news but they are making final preparations to go to full meltdown mode or getting their “Jim Jones on” on “command” from the cult leader, the man known only as Sheriff Wyatt Earp, a board mod and veteran Jock Sniffer in “the know”.
But many of the ‘experts’ believe that N.C. State is in the middle tier of the ACC, a black hole, the Ole Miss of the ACC. No way Coach Cutcliffe would go back into that kind of Ole Miss cess pool, or would he?
Here is what veteran Vol Fan had to say about Cutcliffe news:
| The David Cutcliffe Text Message… | Reply |
was certainly one of the worst text messages I’ve ever gotten. I was laying in bed with the wife watching a fetish porno movie and I got the message. I told her I gotta quit this stuff. Cutt is thinking of leaving! No way I could “perform” with that on my mind. I got up and went to the computer and started surfing recruits MySpace profiles to ease the shock. Needless to say she did not get “any” last night!
David Cutcliffe, veteran offensive coordinator at Tennessee, expressed strong interest Tuesday in the N.C. State coaching job.
“Obviously, I would be very interested if they are interested in me,” Cutcliffe said. The assistant, who is noted for producing prolific offenses, added that he’s impressed with State’s facilities and likes the Wolfpack program’s potential for success.
Cutcliffe, 52, also has strong recruiting ties in North Carolina, having signed several of the state’s top football prospects for Tennessee, including former Vols and ex-Washington Redskins quarterback Heath Shuler.
After sitting out last season following a heart attack, Cutcliffe returned to coaching this year and rejuvenated a sagging Vols’ offense.
Cutcliffe coached Peyton Manning at Tennessee and Eli Manning at Ole Miss, where he had a successful run as head coach. He carved out a 44-29 record and went to five bowls, winning four. His Rebels teams won at least seven games in his first five years, a feat no other coach in Ole Miss history has achieved.
Norm Chow is on the short list for the vacancy at North Carolina State, where Chuck Amato was fired recently. Chow spent one season with the Wolfpack and helped develop Philip Rivers into a first-round pick in the 2004 NFL Draft.
Chow, 60, has never been a head coach at any level, and one of the reasons believed to have spurred him to the pro ranks was that it might enhance his resume in case as a potential college head coach.
Chow remains immensely popular in Raleigh, N.C., and though N.C. State athletics director Lee Fowler, the former AD at Middle Tennessee, is believed to prefer someone with head coaching experience like perhaps University of Tennessee offensive coordinator David Cutcliffe, Chow’s popularity and success with the Wolfpack will probably at least garner him an inquiry from Fowler to gauge his interest.
