Herban Meyer has to play these kids as freshman, not because they will leave for the NFL, but because they could be arrested or Meyer might forced by the judge and jury of the left-wing liberal media Kangaroo Courts to kick them off of the team. So if the Gator Nation wants to see these great athletes perform, redshirting is no longer an option. [Stoning]
Gators, do we expect the players to play tough on the field…but off the field they need to play by the rules..isn’t that a double standard? Can’t we all just have fun and party without fear of losing our “jobs”. I mean come one…no ones perfect!! Great players should be able to play no matter what their criminal record. Coaches have no right to take away their god given gifts to be FOOTBALL PLAYERS! redshirting is no longer an option.
In fact, the rumor is that highly touted frosh Joe Haden was in a “fracas” as the nightclub Mojitos, Percy Harvin was linked to a fight at this bar. GPD “elected” not to file charges against these Players. [gator arrests]
Florida coach Urban Meyer has said he’s not going to redshirt true freshmen anymore, starting with the No. 1-ranked 2007 recruiting class [Gatorsports.com].
That, of course, won’t happen because some freshmen (especially on the offensive line) are going to need time to develop and simply won’t be ready to contribute this season.
But many true freshmen will be factors this fall.
Here’s a look at six who could have the most immediate impact:
1. Cameron Newton
He’s going to enter the season as the No. 2 quarterback and Meyer said he plans on playing two quarterbacks in 2007. So, Newton is going to see the field early. How often will depend on how quickly he picks up the offense.
2. Chris Rainey
The coaches are looking for another Percy Harvin-type player on the edge and Rainey has the kind of speed and ability to fill the role. If Rainey comes ready to play, the little guy could be a big factor early in the offense. Loves throwback jersey and other gifts.
3. Torrey Davis
The Gators lack depth and experience at defensive tackle and this highly rated prospect will have a chance to jump right into the playing rotation. He’s physically ready to go. Now, his playing time will depend on how quickly he learns the defense.
4. Joe Haden
Haden may be the most gifted pure athlete in the class and definitely benefited from enrolling early and participating in spring drills. He could be a big-time running back or receiver, but the Gators desperately need help at cornerback and that’s where Haden is getting his first shot. He came on strong in the spring and will be battling for a starting role when two-a-days begin in August.
5. Justin Trattou
The Gators have almost zero depth at defensive end and this prospect looks like he’s physically ready to play. He’s strong, fast off the edge and could provide a boost for the Gators’ pass rush.
6. Aaron Hernandez
This kid really came on in the second half of the spring and looks like he’s going to give the Gators yet another playmaker in the passing game. He’s quick and athletic and once he gains confidence in his pass-catching ability, he’ll be a regular contributor.
Others who should play early: linebacker Lorenzo Edwards, defensive tackle John Brown (if, as now expected, he qualifies academically), wide receiver Deonte Thompson, offensive lineman James Wilson, safety/linebacker Major Wright, safety Jerimy Finch, defensive end/tackle Carlos Dunlap, defensive end Jerry Howard, tailback Bo Williams and possibly quarterback John Brantley.
That would be 16 true freshmen playing this season, four more than a year ago.
