Review of “Bama Profiles in Courage: Laykin”: (Capers) Barr flexes through an emotional range that most writers would never dare attempt … Humor and Bama sorrow are fused together like twined tree trunks that keep each other standing…..It’s part satire, part character study, with a wry lens on fame, fandom, and the modern South. Well done, Capers, well done.”– Ian Allen, The Times Literary Supplement.

As I was reading Ivan Maisel’s new “I-formation” on ESPN [link] , I came across this little gem in a story about Tim Tebow:

“I’m watching West Virginia [last Thursday]. Pat White took that big hit. I told Tim, ‘Pat White weighs only 185 pounds. He’s running people over. He’s a lot tougher than you are.’ Tim is so competitive. It drives him crazy when you tell him there’s something he can’t do or this guy is better than you.” — Florida QB coach Dan Mullen

Well Tebow maybe be able to throw a deep ball a wee bit better, but he’ll never be as tough as Pat White. The Gators have the whole offense built around him, and use him like a old single wing tailback. Stop Tebow and you beat Florida.

This is not a knock on Tebow, but I’ll take Pat any day and twice on Sundays. Tebow is a great athlete, but Pat White has a toughness that Tebow will never have.

There’s a reason guys like Tim Tebow, Make Hart and Darren McFadden put up monster numbers. These guys play all four quarters. Tebow has less rushing yards but has carried the ball 50 more times. If PW had 50 more carries he would have about 1138 yards of rushing. Tebow’s also thrown 100 more passes. Tebow’s stats will be higher…Florida literally passes twice as much and White has a cupboard full of superior athletes to give the ball to in the running game.

Tim Tebow 2007 Season Stats:
Passing: 2,532 YDS | 23 TD
5 INT | 67.8 CMP%
Rushing: 718 YDS | 19 TD

Pat White 2007 Season Stats:
Passing: 1,251 YDS | 11 TD
2 INT | 69 CMP%
Rushing: 803 YDS | 10 TD

Another Tebow stat = 3 losses, and uses a bucket when he cries…..LOL

I’m so sick of hearing about THE GREAT TIM TEBOW! If THE GREAT TIM TEBOW were playing for WVU, he would be signaling in plays from the sideline because he can’t carry Pat’s jock! If he were here, he would be no better than 2nd string.

Tim Tebow = Dan Kendra

Pat White = Southern-fried lightening

Take your pick, I’ll take Pat, the Heisman voters may take Tebow

  1. I tried to find a sound position within this diatribe but all I read was “As a Vol fan, this is how I take a swipe at UF and Tebow.” Tebow=Kendra? Kendra didn’t have the skills to start at QB. He couldn’t throw a decent ball. Is that the best comparison you could make? Your Vols may win the East, proving that the best teams don’t always win, but this sad rant of jealously couldn’t withstand the criticism of a first grader. You summed up your real sentiment when you wrote “I’m sick of hearing about the Great Tim Tebow.” You must be more sick of watching him succeed.

  2. Brian I am not a vol fan. I did not write this from a SEC POV. I find your rant of my rant to be one of a dullard with ADHD

  3. Dan Kendra was considered to be one helluva a QB BTW

  4. A dullard? Coming from someone who compared Tebow to Kendra? Yes, Kendra was considered a real steal for FSU until he suited up on game day or when he played around in the kitchen. I guess you might argue that Tebow was considered one helluva a QB. Oh wait, he actually executes so he is one helluva QB.

I guess dullard is what I get when strong evidence is given showing how ridiculous your post is. I guess you never considered that the reason why Tebow has more opportunities is because UF is a better team and Tebow is a better player allowing the UF offense more opportunities for success.

I’ll say again, this is more you hating Tebow and looking for a reason to post on it. I understand. I can see how the Tebow overkill can be annoying. Just be honest about it. 😉

  5. Oh AngryEer … once again you remind us all how delusional you are. How can you knock Tim Tebow’s toughness? I’ll agree that Pat White is a great QB. I loved that TD run to beat Louisville. But there’s no way in hell that White is ‘tougher’ than Tebow. That’s just stupid.

Also, you called Pat White ‘Southern-fried lightening’. I know you meant LIGHTNING, but do yourself a favor and go to http://www.dictionary.com. Type in lightening and read the first definition.

High-five!! I hope your Eers make it to the NC game. Go Tigers!

  6. This has got to be the dumbest post I’ve ever read on the site. Seriously, Jai. Why do you subject us to this?

  7. I had forgotten how awesome Kendra was so I went ahead and looked up his stats for you (he ended his FSU career as a 2nd team fullback).

As a freshman, led the Seminoles to a 44-7 win over Wake Forest in his only start of the season..

As a sophmore, completed 20-of-37 passes for 341 yards and three touchdowns over sophomore season.

As a junior, he spent the season injured.

However, he does own the FSU record with a leg press of over 1300 pounds.

Yeah, I can see a lot of Kendra in that Tebow.

  8. thanks for the correction CJR
    LL, words escape me.
Brian I think you hate pat White, and that hurts. Frankly Pat is a more complete player and better QB

  9. You may think I hate Pat White, however it would actually serve you better to show where in anything I stated shows such hate. We know, however, that you hate Tebow. I actually enjoy White and wouldn’t spend my good time blogging about how much I hate him.

Are my facts getting in the way of your completely subjective post? Care to support that Kendra comparison? One might argue that you hate the fact that Tebow may win the HT and that Pat blew his opportunity.

  10. No more than where I stated that i hated tebow?

  11. Angry, let me point out how dumb you are:

    – Mullen was joking with Tebow about White being “tougher”. Yet you somehow think he’s serious.

    – “Stop Tebow and you beat Florida.” Wrong again. Tebow hasn’t been stopped in a game all year. It’s not his fault that UF’s defense has stunk it up most of the year and that UF’s RBs can’t hold on to the ball.

    – “…I’ll take Pat any day and twice on Sundays.” And you’ll be alone in feeling that way because Pat White will NEVER play QB on a Sunday in the NFL.

    – “There’s a reason guys like Tim Tebow, Make Hart and Darren McFadden put up monster numbers. These guys play all four quarters.” Do you know why Tebow plays all 4 quarters? Because he’s playing against tougher competition in the toughest conference in the land where every game means something. He’s not playing in the shitty Big Least.

Lastly, Tebow is about to become the first QB to ever pass and throw for 20 touchdowns in a season. Suck on that, Pat White.

  12. “One might argue that you hate the fact that Tebow may win the HT and that Pat blew his opportunity.”

I think you hit the nail on the head, Brian.

  13. Mullen was joking with Tebow about White being “tougher”. Yet you somehow think he’s serious- How do you know? Are you Dan Mullen?

“Stop Tebow and you beat Florida.” Wrong again. Tebow hasn’t been stopped in a game all year. It’s not his fault that UF’s defense has stunk it up most of the year and that UF’s RBs can’t hold on to the ball.- UGA did and my Eers dominated UGA

Do you know why Tebow plays all 4 quarters? – Yes I do, Meyer wants to add a Heisman winner to his resume. I bet TT plays well into the 4th qtr against FAU

  14. Angry Eer,
You never cease to amaze me, really. If you think Pat White is better than Tim Tebow, then I can only hope that you don’t work for a company that performs drug testing, because you’re going to get a BIG FAT “F!”

Let’s start with the obvious stat first, touchdown production/responsibility. Tebow: 42 total touchdowns, 23 passing. 19 rushing. White: 21 total touchdowns. 11 passing. 10 rushing. Obviously anyone can see that Tebow has more TD’s passing and 2 fewer td’s rushing than White has combined! Tebow has completed more passes, 173, than White has attempted 155. It’s true Tebow has 50 more carries than White, but if we had a dominant RB that could hold on to the ball, then I could assure you that Tebow would have more rushing yds on less carries too just of having the added dimension of a viable go to RB, hopefully Emmanuel Moody can change that.

Yes, it’s true, Tebow has had to play the 4th qtr a lot with the exceptions of W. Kentucky, Troy, & Tennessee. He’s had to do this because we’ve played tougher, closer games than WVU. Things like that can happen when you lose 9 members off of your National Championship defense, let me repeat that, National Championship defense. In case you’re keeping score, that’s 2 for us, 0 for you. We had 9 players drafted including 2 first rounder’s in the ’07 draft, while West Va. has had 9 total going back to 2000

You said it yourself “Florida literally passes twice as much and White has a cupboard full of superior athletes to give the ball to in the running game.” So what’s it going to be? Either you’re admitting that UF has better players, or you’re admitting that Tebow is performing better in an offense, as you claim was originated by Rich Rodriguez, and stolen by Meyer.

Let me address your other points, Toughness. I really don’t need to expound on this too much other than by just saying that Tebow hasn’t missed a game yet due to injury, nor has he had to sit out a series. I’m not saying that he can keep this up and never be hurt, but don’t argue toughness when Pat White has already missed portions of the South Florida & Syracuse games and had to sit on the sideline sniffing cinnamon & sugar douche scented smelling salts due to injuries & getting his bell rung.

As far as Tebow being 2nd string, that’s laughable. Tebow was rated the 3rd best qb in the nation! White wasn’t even #1 in his own state of Alabama!! Which brings me to my other point, West Va. has more players on their starting roster from the state of Florida & the south than from West Virginia!?! Darius Reynard(LA), Pat White(AL), Noel Devine(FL), Dorrell Jalloh(NC), Jarrett Brown(FL), Johnny Dingle(FL), that’s just to name a few. Which brings me to my question, how would WVU fare if they didn’t recruit the south & the state of Florida so much? You guys have enjoyed immense success with other states’ 2nd & 3rd tier talent.

Let me address the crying issue. How can you knock someone for crying win or lose? Charles Barkley cried after every single loss while he was at Auburn. Michael Jordan cried after winning his first NBA Title. Jerry Rice, Emmitt Smith, Michael Irvin all cried after Super Bowl Victories, and I’ve personally witnessed Peyton Manning cry after losing to us in his JR & SR yrs. My point is this; sport is a game of raw emotion. When you have completely given all of yourself physically, mentally, sometimes the only thing you are able to do IS cry because you have absolutely nothing left! I cried after we lost to Nebraska, I cried again after we won the national championship in ’96. Like I said, when you give everything on the field of battle, sometimes crying speaks the words that your mouth can’t say.

  15. While White vs Tebow makes for interesting comparisons, I have to agree with psycho that beating FL means stopping Tebow. Wasn’t he below avg in pass/rush for the Auburn & LSU losses? To a guy whose team’s success is built around his touches and decision making, and to benefit from so much glory & press to have 3 losses, you’d think somewhere in those games he didn’t make enough big plays not to shoulder a large portion of blame. I guess that gets washed away with his tears. Cry me a river, you big-hearted lug.

  16. @14
No, what I admitted was that WVU has superior athletes. Tebow and his whole “me first” tude has no place in the Big East.

    @15

I addressed his weeping in the post

  17. MagStMike,
Our 3 losses were due to poor defensive performances. I’m not making excuses, or throwing our defense under the bus, it is what it is.

Against Auburn Tebow was 20/27, 201, 1 td, 1 int. He also had 19car for 75yds and another td. Not to mention we came back from a 17pt deficit. Final score 20-17 on a last second FG as time expired, so it appears to me we were right in that game. We couldn’t make the stops we needed on defense. Granted, Auburn played an excellent cover-2 scheme, but Will Muschamp is just a monster of a D-Coord. Hat’s off to him.

Against LSU Tebow was 12/26, 158, 2 td’s, 1 int. 16 car for 67 yds. If I remember correctly, we were actually winning this game, but again, we couldn’t stop them on 4th down, and we also allowed our first 100yd rusher in 2 years, Hester finished with 106 and scored the game wining touchdown. Hat’s off to Bo Pelini on another excellent defensive scheme, but it was after that game that everyone took notice of how LSU’s defense was exposed.

So, let me count, that’s 2 losses by a total of 7 points…what offensive drop off were you referring to?? Clearly we were in position to win those games, but the fact of the matter is we didn’t, but Tebow certainly played outstanding games both times.

  18. How long is this douche going to pollute this blog? Just asking.

  19. AngryEer,
Which superior athletes does WVU have? Natives of West Va., or the ones they got from Florida? My guess is, if they were truly superior, then A. They would be at big time programs, or B. WVU would have more than 1 BCS bowl appearance

    Tyrone Prothro’s floppy get-a-way stick

Pfft… Why is it that Tebow gets all the credit when uf wins and the defense shoulders all the blame in the losses?

Getting sick of all the tebow fluffing, he’s good but face it he can’t hold Jim Bob Cooters jock. BTW reciting a line of stats and then saying, “if I remember correctly” makes you a big fat toolbag.

  21. “BTW reciting a line of stats and then saying, “if I remember correctly” makes you a big fat toolbag.”

Yea! If I could give you a balloon or a new eraser for your pencil, I would. I’ll use that one in the future. I’ll credit TPFgaws.

  22. “what offensive drop off were you referring to??”

Let’s see…Tebow was averaging in the mid 80’s rushing and the 250’s passing at the time of both games. In each game he had a personal dropoff in both pass/rush. In either game and esp LSU, if he meets his average output, the Gators probably win.

You yourself praise Pelini on the D scheme. And while LSU D was exposed as the bright guys like to say, last time I checked (just now), they held the Gators to about 140 yrd less than their per game average and incredibly, somehow they are still leading the nation in total D.

I have no dog in the Tebow/White hunt but from the outside, it sure seems amazing what rose colored, magnifying blinders can do for your perspective. What would the fans and press have done to Leak last year for the same season?

All I’m saying is Tebow is really gifted but not beyond criticism. He’s just A god, not THE God.

Sorry to be snide and run but I’m into happy hour here. Have one on me and best of luck & hopefully no injuries to either QB. Both look to have monster seasons next year as well.

  23. Tyrone…,
Because Tebow doesn’t play LB, FS, CB, DT, or DE. I’m not giving him credit when they win or lose, I initial stated my opinion on the original topic of Tebow vs. White that was originated by AngryEer. I only cited the Auburn & LSU games because those were the games referenced by MagStMike. Yes, “If I remember correctly” was the appropriate statement because I was at that game, I also remember how quiet it was in the stadium that night up until Hester scored the game winning touchdown.

People please, if you want to debate football, then the least you could do is construct a decent argument and leave out the cheap insults. It’s funny you mention Jim Bob Cooter, he came to my football camp this year, he’s a G.A. at Tenn. We actually talk quite often; I’ll have to share your comments with him.

  24. Guys there is no point in trying to debate anything with AngryQueer. He is like that little kid who’s answer to every argument is “my dad can beat up your dad”. The guy is a complete retard. He thinks that wvu can beat UF based on his team beating Georgia 2 years ago (remember the game they almost lost after having a big half time lead). I will no longer respond to nor read anything he posts. I think we all should. Maybe that will convince Jai to boot his dumb ass from this blog.

AngryQueer, please do all of us a favor and crawl back into the mold infested shit hole that were birthed from.

  25. MagStMike,
The only reason he was averaging in the mid 80’s in rushing was because of his 166yd effort against Ole Miss, so if you really look at it, up until the LSU game, Tebow had rushing yds of 38, 93, 61, 166, 75, 67, so in fact, he’s been pretty consistent.

Yes, LSU held Florida to 140 yds less than their average, but, LSU is also only allowing 236.8 a game, the gave up 314 to us.

I agree with you, Tebow is not above criticism. I don’t think he throws the tightest spiral, and if you look at the Tenn, Ole Miss, & Auburn games, their Cover-2 schemes really gave him fits, but that’s more on the O-Coord on calling the right plays to attack it which he did very well in the LSU game.

While he’s not above criticism, I don’t understand all the bashing either.

  26. Remember guys, Angry is the same guy who jerks his weenie to the SI cover with Slaton. Why even try to debate with that.

  27. LOL @ “jerks his weenie.”

That P-Funk really knows his stuff (shut you guys up) and I have to agree with Jokers Wild… Why debate with “THAT”?

  29. Erik Ainge Owns Mark Richt Avatar

I think P-Funk might be Bob Tebow

  30. LOL @ 29. I can assure you that I’m not. I just don’t see how people can be so blind when it comes to a legitimate talent. You would never hear me bashing Slaton, Devine, Moreno, McFadden, or any other top collegiate player in the nation. I just want people to be fair in their assessment of a player. If you’re going to argue a point, then you better make sure you know what you’re talking about, at least back it up with something to prove your argument.

Do I think Slaton is a good player? No. He’s an outstanding player. Is he better than McFadden? No, not in my opinion. Is Pat White a good player? Yes, I just think there are better qb’s than him. That doesn’t make him any less important to his team. Personally, I like Andre Woodson, between him & Brohm I think they are arguably 2 of the nations top qb’s regardless of their team’s records. When draft time comes, scouts are going to dissect every possible aspect of a player. You don’t think White’s weight is going to be an issue? You’re wrong! You think the fact that he didn’t throw that much in college won’t come into question? I’ve said many times before, it’s fine to like a player, but don’t let your blind allegiance affect rational judgment.

  31. I get tired of hearing and reading all the sucking of the ‘bow myself.

He’s a great player, I’ll give him that. He’s exciting to watch, he pulls shit out of his ass, and makes it fun to watch. But I think he acts like a jackass, and he has an arrogance about him that doesn’t sit well with some people. However, he is good, and to that I believe someone is allowed to have some level of “shit don’t stink” syndrome.

But I do agree with the comment that if you contain him, and keep him below his average, you generally leave yourself enough room to beat FL. The defense can’t pick up where tebow has been knocked down a notch.

UGA did it more so than AU or LSU have this season. The Bow was -15 in rushes, had a lost fumble.. hell, he even had, 2 rushin TD’s I believe it was.

Cut off Da’ Bow, and the Team will DIE.

  32. “Well Tebow maybe be able to throw a deep ball a wee bit better, but he’ll never be as tough as Pat White. The Gators have the whole offense built around him, and use him like a old single wing tailback. Stop Tebow and you beat Florida.”

Didn’t wvu lose to USF when White got injured? Isn’t the spread option offense based on having a mobile QB? Can it not be said that the entire wvu offense is based around Pat White? And don’t say no because you have Slaton. The Gates have Percy Harvin.

It is not news that if you take out any teams best player you have a great chance to beat them.

When it comes to AngryQueer, I have to stand by my retard statement.

  33. he gets all of you fired up…..

I have had to smack him, but I find him entertaining

  34. I guess Pat White’s completion percentage would be higher than Tebow, considering all of the swing passes to Slaton and WR Screens that WVU runs.

  35. Tebow will win the Heisman because he has higher numbers and is a great qb. Pat White is by far a better athlete and is the best spread offense qb in college football. Does that make Pat White a better overall qb than Tebow? Doubtful…but all of those touchdowns by Tebow don’t mean anything either…

    my two cents…

    Hi, Brian.

Hope to see your Gators put together a complete season and win games when they count next season…. However I’m sure we will win it again.
