It IS easy to ask Notre Dame to leave my proud and majestic conference. What do they bring to the table? A stellar bowl lineup? LOL, what a fucking joke. Hell, they can’t even do that anymore and when they do, they lose to a lesser team like LSU. The one decent bowl they kept us in, the Gator, has already discarded the Big East. The remainder of what they bring to the table, they steal back. For example, if Brian Kelly does turn around the program, they’ll start stealing our bowls out from under us when they don’t get into the BCS. We’ve been pretty lucky with that till now, cause they just suck at football. I don’t see why the basketball side of the conference would object as long as it protects the conference as a whole. Do they want a viable Big East or do they want the Big East as we know it? How would it benefit them if the Big East football schools go away? That’s a lot of quality basketball teams going their own way. I don’t see how they recover to be near as profitable as what we have now.
Peripheral to this issue, I don’t understand why sports writers all over the country bash the Big East’s automatic BCS berth. Why are they not all over the deal that Notre Dame has with the BCS? One school trumps the whole Mountain West and WAC? That’s what potentially would happen if Notre Dame were BCS eligible this year. Either TCU or Boise would’ve been bumped. That’s what should be upsetting teams out west, not the Big East. As a league, we’ve met all the criteria put in front of us including the rules specifically adopted to run us out of the BCS. They’re stuck with us. We’ve done our part. Why isn’t there a Notre Dame rule. Ever since they got the sweet deal they haven’t been to the BCS once have they?
Finally, Notre Dame has been a festering Beamer-Goiter on this proud and powerful Big East conference far too long now. Irish: Shit or get off the Big East pot. Ousting these parasites could move them into the Big Ten and protect Big East football. It’s a gamble, sure but how would it harm the conference if they called our bluff and were tossed out without joining the Big Ten? What’s the worst that could happen? The Big Ten would still get one of our schools if we sit on our asses and do nothing. But, if we did do this, at least we didn’t just bend over and grab our ankles.
