Closed Scrimmage, Open Psychosis

Tennessee held another closed scrimmage Saturday.

“Closed” means fans were not allowed inside. Let me repeat that but louder, NO FANS ALLOWED (see video below).  No statistics were released. No film was available. Josh Heupel did not name a starting quarterback.

The one-way Iranian Attack Drone that struck was a Volquest report titled What We’re Hearing about the Quarterbacks in the First Fall Scrimmage. Heupel’s own assessment was considerably less explosive: both quarterbacks improved as the scrimmage progressed, made plays downfield, worked through their progressions and generally protected the football. This modest ration of uncertainty reached the message boards and was immediately converted into a coronation, a psychological crisis and two future transfer-portal announcements.

By nightfall, the message boards knew everything.

They knew who won the job, why George MacIntyre struggled, how Faizon Brandon excelled, what both quarterbacks were thinking, when Heupel would announce his already decided decision and who would transfer when the season ended.
