Review of “Bama Profiles in Courage: Laykin”: (Capers) Barr flexes through an emotional range that most writers would never dare attempt … Humor and Bama sorrow are fused together like twined tree trunks that keep each other standing…..It’s part satire, part character study, with a wry lens on fame, fandom, and the modern South. Well done, Capers, well done.”– Ian Allen, The Times Literary Supplement.

Something I have been thinking about since Kirk Herbstriet decided that the Gators were too weak to be in the national championship game…how will he be treated when he come to Gainesville this year??? I personally think he marks out to the big 10, especially OSU, but how will Gator fans respond when he comes to Gainesville and gives his reasons why the Gators will win or lose a game? Do you think he will make excuses for why he said the things he did? Or will he admit he was wrong and give in the pressure while he’s in “Titletown Hogtown/Gunsville/Cali/Bogota/Jortsville “??? Below is what one Gator Blog is thinking [Swampball]:

Your biggest rival is in town, and College Gameday is coming….to your citaaaaaaay… Create a blatant corporate sellout promotion to appeal to the mass unwashed.

… Must. Refuse. Easy. Krispy Kreme. Phil Fulmer. Joke …

When the Vols come to town this year, “Motts Apple Juice” will hand out small cups of “apple juice” in which the fans can do with what they choose. The most obvious choice of fans will be to re-enact the alleged throwing of urine on poor Phil’s wife [or Kirk Herstreit too!!]

I mean, the bogus story (sure it’s bogus) has stuck for so long … may as well take advantage of it.

Here is what a poster from a prominent Gator Board had to say : I plan on pissing into Gatorade bottles for the whole week. Then I am going to sneak them into BHG and throw them at the crew like molotov cocktails. Cause I really don’t want to hear anything from him anymore. I don’t think he’s objective, and I don’t believe he learned anything from the spankin’ we put on his beloved “suckeyes”. I really hope Gator fans boo the hell out of him when he’s giving his analysis, or when he opens his mouth period. I don’t want him to feel comfortable in our back yard. I know some of this is just “sour grapes”, and I should get over it. I guess I really don’t feel like he ate enough, if any, crow after the NCG.

It is true that Kirk tried to use his ESPN Commentator position to influence poll voters to get a Michigan-OSU rematch, even though he had repeatedly stated that he would oppose it for much of the last season. Then when his campaign failed, he and his associates tried to give Meyer and UF a blackeye by accusing them of “lobbying”. I guaratee you that if Florida had gotten denied to the championship, Gators everywhere would have had to write their local congress representative to get the BCS toppled. Just like they should be writing to have oppressive marijuana laws repealed as well.

  1. As a Gator fan, Herbstreit (and his analysis) is irrelevant to me.

With that being said, I’m pretty sure he’ll get a poor reception in Gainesville this year. Which is to be expected. If it was Auburn, Tennessee, Georgia, LSU, or any other SEC team in UF’s shoes last year and he said the same things about them and pushed for an All Big 10 Title game, I would expect their fans to treat him the same way.

I’m more upset with how ESPN/ABC lobbied for a Mich.-OSU rematch while touting them as by far the 2 best teams in the country for most of last year. And then how they lobbied a USC-OSU matchup. All 3 of those teams appear multiple times a year on their networks. Gary Danielson wrote a great article about it late last year.

  2. would you pour urine on him?

  3. No, I wouldn’t pour urine on him. C’mon, Man.
