Monitoring Vols Messageboards for drama, trends, analysis and headlines before they happen. “Tennessee could be good. Or they could be bad. We won’t know until the ball kicks off but even then we have no way of knowing.” – User OldBullsGapVol

This is not a hypothetical. This shit is real.

The Cleveland Browns waived tight end Dae’Quan Wright, who has an agreement to play for LSU if he clears waivers. LSU is also adding former Ole Miss defensive lineman Zxavian Harris after his release from an NFL team.

A Louisiana court order temporarily restored their college eligibility. If Wright joins LSU, he is expected to become the first known player to return to college football after spending time with an NFL team.

Adam Schefter dropped the kind of news that should come with a blood-pressure warning in East Tennessee:

“The Browns are waiving tight end Dae’Quan Wright and, if he clears waivers, he has an agreement in place for the 2026 season to play for LSU.”

An NFL player can leave the Cleveland Browns and play college football for Lane Kiffin.

Tennessee linebacker Arion Carter gets suspended two games over a plane ticket.

Professional football? Welcome back, young scholar.

Commercial air travel? Get your criminal ass in the press box.

DoubleNickelsAndDimes recognized the issue:

“Good thing Drew Rosenhaus never got him a flight lined up anywhere.”

Nearly 300 likes.

Less a message-board response than an East Tennessee jury verdict.

Wright went through NFL training camp.

Carter went through TSA. Not even Pre-check.

One gets Baton Rouge.

The other gets two Saturdays to think about what he did near Gate C14. At least he can keep his travel points. Or can he?

Jimmy Haslam’s Customer-Service Department

Then somebody remembered who owns the Browns.

Jimmy Haslam.

Knoxville native. Tennessee alumnus. Former Pilot boss. A man whose family name is on the Tennessee’s business school.

His NFL team releases a player.

Lane Kiffin gets him at LSU.

Tennessee gets a receipt from Delta and a suspension.

PilotMountainVawl asked the obvious question:

“So we own the Browns, and LSU gets the player?”

We.

A confident ownership claim from a man checking his account before ordering extra queso.

Browns coach Todd Monken said Kiffin had reached out. Monken said he didn’t return the call.

The board handled the remaining evidence with the restraint of a drunk uncle assembling a rifle.

HaslamHearsAWho explained:

“So Kiffin says cut him, and our own booster says, yes sir?”

Nobody knows whether Jimmy Haslam spoke to Kiffin.

That detail was immediately classified as irrelevant.

By lunchtime, the family that built Pilot was accused of operating LSU’s curbside pickup.

ThirdAndGruden demanded:

“Jimmy owns the Browns, and we’re helping Lane Kiffin?”

Your family has a college named after it in Knoxville and your NFL franchise is apparently running a delivery service to Baton Rouge.

That’ll make the donor dinner awkward.

Another poster wanted Haslam to start cutting offensive linemen for Tennessee.

A third suggested signing Arion Carter to an NFL contract, releasing him, and enrolling him again.

Apparently legal.

Provided he takes the bus.

Lane Kiffin: The Ex Who Still Has a Key

A Tennessee message board can begin with federal tax policy and arrive at Lane Kiffin before the second page.

ThirdAndChavis opened with restraint:

“If Lane Kiffin ever has anything to do with Tennessee again, I’m burning everything orange I own.”

Half the board agreed.

The other half wanted him hired immediately.

Tennessee fans discuss Kiffin the way a divorced man discusses the woman who left him: bitterly, constantly, and with a suspicious number of photographs still on his phone.

Crompton3rdRead offered the traditional defense:

“People forget what he did with Jonathan Crompton.”

Nobody forgets.

Kiffin’s disciples have carried Crompton around for seventeen years like a doctor’s note excusing every questionable thing Lane has done since.

Before Kiffin, Crompton threw a football like a golfer coming over the top with a driver.

Everything sliced right.

One pass threatened a bird.

The next killed three worms.

The third found a defensive back wearing a different jersey.

At least the wildlife had a chance.

Kiffin showed up like an old golf pro, fixed the swing, and suddenly Crompton completed passes to people wearing orange.

The board received this information like a blind man had regained his sight.

Jonathan Crompton hit a crossing route.

Therefore, Lane Kiffin is eligible for sainthood.

Never mind the midnight departure.

Never mind the years of baggage.

Some people will forgive anything if you can straighten out a twenty-yard out.

Then VOLinSC remembered Brent Schaeffer, now back in conversation because Faizon Brandon is Tennessee’s first true freshman to open a season since 2004.

“Schaeffer had talent. Looking back, we were better off without him.”

An old girlfriend remembered fondly until somebody admits she was a cold fish in the sack.

Tennessee fans never move on.

They just change quarterbacks and keep the photographs.

Christian Charity, with Kindling

Then came a report from church.

A Tennessee fan had been talking to an Ole Miss fan.

At church.

A place generally associated with forgiveness.

The Ole Miss fan offered:

“If Kiffin were on fire, I’d add wood to the flames.”

Somewhere between the opening hymn and the offering, a man considered Lane Kiffin’s hypothetical combustion and decided Jesus would understand.

PewNumberFour respected the restraint:

“At least he didn’t say gasoline.”

Spiritual growth takes time.

Meanwhile, OldRow92 summarized Tennessee’s relationship with Kiffin:

“I hate him, but I’d take him.”

That’s not a coaching opinion.

That’s your aunt texting her ex after two margaritas.

By then, the board wanted Kiffin investigated, Kiffin hired, Carter reinstated, and Jimmy Haslam to start treating the Browns like Tennessee’s farm system.

An NFL player can join LSU.

A Tennessee linebacker can’t accept a plane ticket.

And a Tennessee billionaire owns the team supplying Lane Kiffin.

The NCAA calls it amateurism.

East Tennessee calls it bullshit.

The Ole Miss fan calls it kindling.
