Here is my prediction My Beautiful Eers 52 Maryland 13.
I want to tell you sec homers about the Big East mindset. You guys really need to figure out how we think because it is costing you games on the gridiron. GATA!!! WAR EAGLE!!!
Seems to me that of all the other Big East fans, the ‘eers fans “get it” the most.
They get that right now we are an 8 team conference which was left for dead only a few years ago and looked like we were going to die. The only big-time team was left was WVU. Maybe that’s why we get it -we see these other teams, teams we hate, start to step up and make our conference into something. Louisville came in from CUSA as a basketball team (in my opinion) and put out a great football team at the right time. Then RU stepped it up, and with all of the media attention RU has really helped to bring back the Big East. That little “you got fucked up” incident against Navy was some good press too. It just shows the rest of CFB just how bad ass the Big East is. USF is now doing the same thing. Cinci is on the verge of doing it also.
So when I say that some BE fans “get it”, they get that whether we like it or not, we’re all in the same boat, in a conference that is gaining respect only a few short years after being left for dead. The only way for our conference to gain national respect is to become a dominant, scary conference, which is what we’re doing. We can’t do that with just one good team though. A team like RU (and USF, cinci, even L’ville) can’t get the good OOC games against strong SEC, Big 10, Big 12 games, so we need to win and win with the schedules we have, get to some good bowl games, and beat them THERE.
So for now, the bigger objective is to turn the Big East into a highly respected conference, which is what we’re doing. And for that to happen, we need to support the entire conference. Now we continue to establish the Big East as a tough conference, the kind that gets respect based on history, like the Big 11 or Big 12 or SEC, THEN we can start throwing conference allegiances out the window a little bit more.
Right now, I can’t go against Louisville or USF or Cinci or anyone else when they play OOC, because how well or poorly they do in those games will directly reflect upon WVU (or anyone else in the BE) when we play them, whether we win or lose.
So for a while it’s going to be GO BIG EAST as far as I’m concerned – and part of that is GO EERS – you can be your school’s fan but also support your brethren in the Big East.
Rivals or Brothers? Both – but more heavy on the brotherhood for now until our conference “gels” in the public perception.
