“Some of y’all are the dumbest motherfuckers I’ve ever encountered. You definitely don’t understand football or people.”

VolQuest had spent the morning proving Glen Elarbee couldn’t recruit by naming four Tennessee starters he brought to Knoxville.

Nobody noticed.

Then the username appeared in the thread.

PinhotiVol.

15,684 posts. Rock Springs, Georgia. Longtime insider. Former assistant on a North Georgia state-title staff. He knows coaches from Chattanooga to Dalton and has been around recruiting long enough to recognize bullshit before most people finish typing it.

The board knew the name. More importantly, they knew the stories.

PinhotiVol is the board’s BREAK IN CASE OF EMERGENCY option. The red box on the wall. Nobody breaks the glass because a thread is annoying. They break it when the bullshit has survived facts, film, statistics, common sense and several hundred replies.

This is when the mule gets the 2×4. Right smack between the eyes.

Other users are actually scared of him. Not message-board scared. Not “he might quote-post me” scared. Years ago, at a tailgate, PinhotiVol reportedly beat the ass father of a backup Tennessee quarterback. That story has followed his username ever since.

When PinhotiVol shows up, nobody gets smarter. They just get a whole bunch more careful.

Nobody tagged him. Nobody asked him to weigh in.

That was worse.

Tards

“Some of you need a 2×4 between the fucking eyes because facts have been bouncing off your skulls all week. You keep saying Elarbee can’t recruit, then list Sanders, Perry, Haslam and Moore — four guys he brought to Tennessee — as the reason he can’t recruit. That isn’t analysis. That’s stepping on your own dick and calling it film study.”

Hopes03 had argued that the line looks good only when people cherry-pick plays, that PFF grades are too inconsistent, and that good offensive lines do not have ugly grades week to week.

PinhotiVol:

“Football players have bad snaps. Good units have bad games. PFF is a grading service, not Moses coming down the fucking mountain. If your argument requires every good offensive line to grade well every week, you have successfully invented a standard no offensive line in America can meet. Congratulations you tool.”

AAcoop11 had reposted the three things that supposedly made Auburn different: GMac getting the ball out, different personnel at guard, and the useful reminder that Auburn is not Texas.

That one almost made PinhotiVol sentimental.

“Correct. The quarterback got the ball out. The coaches changed personnel. The protection improved. You have accidentally described coaching adjustments and then presented them as evidence the coach cannot coach.”

Elarbee does not coach quarterbacks. Joey Halzle does. This feels like a useful piece of the organizational chart when VolQuest starts demanding that five offensive linemen protect a quarterback who has decided the football is a family heirloom and intends to hold it through the edge rusher’s first move, second move, counter, counter to the counter, two geological epochs and the full useful life of a Weigel’s breakfast biscuit while waiting for the Book of Revelation to open a throwing window.

All-Vol-Ball kept returning to the 13 sacks surrendered to SEC teams in two games. This was at least an actual football complaint.

PinhotiVol gave him half a biscuit. Then took it back.

“Pass protection has been bad at times. Nobody with functioning eyes is arguing otherwise. But ‘pass protection was bad against Texas’ and ‘Glen Elarbee cannot recruit or develop offensive linemen’ are not the same sentence. One is criticism. The other is a campfire story you boys keep telling each other until somebody swears he saw Bigfoot at left guard. And every time somebody kills one version with a fact, you drag the goalpost fifty yards and call everybody else a narrative shaper.”

Then came DoubleUgly, who wanted to know why a line with four or five returning starters had not been dominant from the opening snap of the season, especially against Furman. He also returned to recruiting, development and the lack of a dozen Elarbee-developed NFL linemen.

That was the moment the 2×4 came back out.

“Why in the hell is ‘a dozen developed NFL players’ the standard for whether the man can coach Tennessee’s offensive line? That isn’t a fucking standard. That is a number you pulled out of your ass after the last standard died. Is Roger Goodell awarding SEC wins now? Does a third-round draft pick spot us three points against Alabama? The job is to win blocks on Saturdays. The NFL Draft is evidence. It is not the damn scoreboard.”

Then PinhotiVol started counting, which is generally when a message-board urban legend goes to die.

Larry Borom signed with Missouri while Elarbee was the offensive-line coach and was later drafted by Chicago. Darnell Wright played under Elarbee, became first-team All-SEC, allowed no sacks in 2022 and went No. 10 overall. Cade Mays played under him, earned All-SEC honors and was drafted. Cooper Mays became a first-team All-American and Rimington finalist. Tennessee’s line was a Joe Moore semifinalist in 2022, 2023 and 2024.

“Now somebody explain to me which part of that means ‘cannot develop players.’ Use crayons if necessary.”

Addy0730 decided the people defending Elarbee were “pumpers” who probably knocked kids down for autographs.

That trick was older than the board.

“Pumper is the word you reach for when your argument is dead and you’re too stupid to bury it. ‘Pumpers pushing kids down for autographs’ is not a rebuttal. It is a tantrum with a username. The facts beat your ass, so now you’re calling people names. Grow up.”

Barrythevol offered what may have been the thread’s purest accidental self-own: Sanders, Perry, Haslam and Moore were all starting for Tennessee, all brought to Knoxville under Elarbee, and Barry would be stunned if at least one of them were not drafted.

PinhotiVol stared at that one for a while.

“Brother, you just named four SEC starters the man recruited while arguing he cannot recruit. I cannot improve on that. Put it in a museum.”

Voldrew wanted the line to prove itself against Alabama. Run for 200. Keep the quarterback clean. Then maybe he would buy it.

Finally, an easy one.

“Which Alabama?”

In 2022, with Elarbee coaching the line, Tennessee scored 52 on Alabama. The Tide recorded one sack. Will Anderson Jr. recorded none.

In 2024, Tennessee beat Alabama again and ran for 214 yards — the most rushing yards Alabama allowed all season.

PinhotiVol:

“You keep moving the test to Alabama like nobody can check the damn schedule. They already passed it twice. What exactly do you want next, notarized blocking assignments?”

RDBIPB called the line mediocre in pass protection and strong in the run game.

That one he allowed.

“There. That is an adult football opinion. Keep that one. Frame it. You can criticize pass protection without inventing a fifteen-year recruiting curse.”

HillbillyLibertine had a more serious version of the complaint: the zone scheme helps the run game, Heupel and Joey Halzle cover some weaknesses, the staff has leaned on the portal, and there had been internal criticism of Elarbee’s recruiting.

PinhotiVol did not dismiss it. He just refused to let it become another urban legend.

“If you have a specific recruiting miss, name it. If you think Sanders was mishandled, make that case. If you think they rely too much on the portal, show it. But stop laundering every specific criticism into ‘he can’t recruit.’ Four of the guys you’re using as evidence are starting while you type the sentence.”

Then he got to the part that had apparently been bothering him all morning.

The draft.

“Do I want Tennessee linemen drafted? Hell yes. It helps recruiting. It tells you something about development. It matters.

“But if your right guard caves in Alabama’s three-tech on 4th-and-2 in October, I do not give one solitary damn whether Mel Kiper likes his arm length in April.

“We are trying to beat Alabama, Georgia and everybody else in this league. We are not trying to win LinkedIn for offensive linemen.”

By then the thread had gone quiet enough to hear a mouse drag a goalpost.

PinhotiVol posted once more.

“Criticize the ten sacks. Criticize bad pass sets. Criticize recruiting misses. Criticize the portal strategy. Hell, criticize his haircut if you need something to do.

“But if your position is that a coach with three straight Joe Moore semifinalist lines, multiple All-SEC players, NFL draft picks, four current recruits starting, a 52-point win over Alabama and a 214-yard rushing win over Alabama cannot recruit, develop or coach offensive linemen, then the problem is no longer Glen Elarbee.

“The problem is you.

Hand me the fucking 2×4.”
